Do You Want to Start Earning More Money in Your Business?

Here's something crazy I used to do all the time:

I'd say to myself, why is this not working? Why am I not earning more money? Why am I not getting more clients?

Then I'd look at the actual actions I was taking and then I'd be like, "oh yeah, that's why it's not working right now. That's why I'm not earning more money. That's why I'm not getting more clients."

Because in all honesty, my actions didn't reflect what I was saying I wanted to happen in my business. I was inconsistent. I was half-hearted. I was kinda sorta putting in the effort. But not really.

Here's the truth: You could be making more money in your business today. As in, right NOW.

But you’re not. 

And the reason for that?

Because you’re getting in your own way. Which means you’re not taking the actions you could be taking to make more money starting now. You’re getting lost in your thinking and your emotions and the what ifs. You’re telling yourself you’re not ready yet. You’re making it more complicated than it needs to be. You’re waiting for all those little duckies to be in a nice neat row which, by the way, they will NEVER be.

Sure, you might be kinda sorta doing the things you know you need to be doing to grow your business and make more money. Maybe you’re sending out a regular blog post, making some videos, posting on social media and getting your message out there. But are you really using those things as a way to build your business, or are you just putting stuff out there hoping people will say “here, take my money”?

Are you inviting people to work with you or experience what you have to offer EVERY. SINGLE. DAY?

Are you creating new and exciting ways for people to work with you? And by new and exciting I mean new and exciting for both your clients and you.

Are you asking for money? (Now there’s a crazy thought.)

Because listen, (and believe me, I’ve learned this the really, really hard way) if you’re not asking for something, you’re not going to get it.

People will like you. They might even love you. They might sing your praises from every rooftop they can find. They’ll say how good a person you are and how inspiring and brilliant you are. But if you’re not also offering things to people, asking for the sale and proposing money to people then honestly, the only thing you’re ever going to be is a nice, inspiring person.

And you ARE. You’re all of those things. And that’s great, because you have so much to offer. But you're running a business, right? It's not just about being inspiring to others. It's about making money too so you can continue to inspire others in the way you're here to do and make the difference you're here to make.

So today I’m asking you to get honest with yourself.

Are you doing everything you can to make money in your business?

Are you adding calls to action with every piece of content you put out there? Whether that’s an actual paid offer, asking people to join your email list / community / tribe or whatever you call it, or to book a free discovery call or consultation call with you. It doesn’t matter what it is. It only matters that you’re doing it.

Are you asking for what you want, on a regular, consistent basis? And I’m not just talking about making offers to work with you here. I'm also talking about:

Reaching out to ask for guest posting opportunities.

Inviting yourself to be interviewed.

Seeking out speaking opportunities, if that’s your thing.

YOU doing the work to spread your message and your work instead of just waiting for people to come to you.

My guess is you’re probably not doing these things. Or if you are, you’re doing it every once in a while, when the idea floats through your mind. Which if you’re lucky might be once a week, or if you’re not, once every few months.

The facts are simple. The more you ask for what you want, in whatever form that takes, the more money you’ll make. So the ONLY thing you need to be doing to make more money is to ask for what you want every single day.

So why aren’t you?

Well, if I look back at my own journey over the last several years of building my business and what STILL happens today when I’m trying to break through a new ceiling, it’s probably things like:

You’re scared people will say no.

You’re scared people will think you’re being too pushy or salesy.

You've made up a story that asking for what you want makes you an arrogant or bad person.

You’re worried your community will start to hate you if you tell them about ways to work with you all the time (by the way - if the people in your community don’t actually look forward to hearing about how they could work with you then you’ve really got the wrong people on the bus and it’s totally ok if they go.)

You don't believe in yourself.

You’re scared of looking stupid.

You’re worried you can’t deliver enough value.

You’re letting your emotions and thinking take over. (This is my BIGGEST personal challenge.)

These are all legitimate. I’ve felt, I DO feel, all of these things. BUT, and here’s the important part, you can either let these feelings overwhelm you to the point of doing nothing or you can choose (and yes, it’s a choice) to put them aside and take the necessary actions.

And guess what? When you do that, taking the actions will become a little less scary. And every time you do what you need to do it’ll get a little easier. And that’s how you build the courage to do bigger and bigger things. And if you can’t choose to put these things aside to take the actions necessary to build your business, then I have to tell you, you’re going to find building a business pretty tough.

I’m being harsh. And that feels ever so slightly uncomfortable for me, because I’m so used to being the nice one. And I am. I AM nice. But I also have this massive desire to wake you up and shake you about and literally tip you on your head and have you actually go out and take action.

Because at the end of the day, if me being nice isn’t going to make you go out and take action, I’ve really done nothing to help you. And then I haven’t succeeded in the very thing I’m here to do. Which is to help you get out of your own way long enough to build the business and life of your dreams. No, wait, BEYOND your dreams. Because honestly, it's all possible. But only if you start doing the things you know you need to do.

So, do this now:

Commit to asking for what you want every single day.

Ask people to join your community.
Ask to be on that podcast.
Ask for people to email you to book a discovery call.
Ask people to join your programme.
Ask people to share your work with others.
Ask for that speaking opportunity.
Ask for your guest post to be accepted.

Make a list right now of everything you could be asking for. Then commit to asking for something EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Will you do that? Not for me. For you. This is about the life you want to lead, right? Isn't that worth getting a little out of your comfort zone for?
